About the Competition
Competition Overview
Active learning from Competition and Forum & Exhibition
The Subsea Tieback Forum & Exhibition Student Design Competition challenges the next generation of engineers to push their innovation and creativity as they compete for the best design while gaining practice and practical experience in presenting their ideas/solutions. It provides a unique opportunity for students to meet, connect and work with industry leaders who will be mentoring, judging and attending the Forum. Up to 24 students are accepted and placed into teams of 3-5. Teams will work on a design problem and propose a solution. An industry Subject Matter Expert (SME) will consult with and assist each team. Each team prepares a presentation on their design solution. Solutions will be presented to a panel of 3 to 6 judges. Winning team(s) present at Subsea Tieback Forum on Wednesday. Students gain from the experience in numerous ways. They are provided the opportunity to network with experienced industry professionals. They learn about leading industry challenges and new technologies. They make key industry contacts, and they do all of this in an environment that more closely aligns with a real industry (rather than academic) environment where assumptions are made, they learn from both correct assumptions as well as incorrect assumptions, with positive feedback at all stages of the experience. Several educational and networking opportunities are built into the schedule to ensure each student gains the most from the experience. Each student is provided a $400 travel stipend to eliminate one of the many reasons for not attending.
